The ability of search engines to crawl and index websites scares many Internet marketers today. One wrong tweet and one bad photo can bring them to shame, or even completely pull their business down. One negative comment on a blog post can destroy their treasured online reputation.

Online reputation brings positivity to the Internet marketing world. It automatically removes incompetent businesses from the game, so consumers only consider businesses with a good reputation. We know that a good online reputation comes with a price. Companies earn a positive reputation by providing effective services and products, and through maintaining a connection to consumers. As online reputation becomes the talk of the town today, everyone becomes keener on evaluating online business, scrutinizing customer feedback and testimonials to assess if a business is reliable or not.

A good online reputation may oppose the need to be on top of search engine results pages. The need to be highly ranked in the search results of Google, Yahoo!, and Bing is necessary for your website’s promotion strategies. Moreover, the need for establishing a good online reputation affects everything about your business. This involves not only your promotion strategies, but your brand name and service as well. SEO is effective at making your website more visible, but it’s not that important in achieving a positive online reputation. This only goes to show that being number 1 on Google search results doesn’t mean that your website’s the most trusted resource in that niche.

You can’t exclusively base your business’ online reputation on your website’s search engine rankings, because most Web users today don’t base a company’s reputation on what search engines feed them. Even having substantial About and Testimonial Pages on your website does not assure your business of a good online reputation. Online reputation is derived from consumers’ feedback on your business’ product and services, as well as from the way you treat your consumers. As long as you serve your clients well, and as long as they benefit from you, your business is likely to enjoy online popularity. Web users are aware that it’s not 2005 anymore. They are clever and wise enough to judge a business’ efficiency and usefulness on their own.

Simply put, SEO campaigns are for your business’ marketing and promotion needs. Your business’ online reputation is purely determined by the quality of service you render to consumers. Never forget your reputation is one of the most valuable properties your company will ever own. A good reputation will return revenue for years to come.
